Adding files from different storage services into your JIRA issues can be quite an adventure: first you need to leave your current JIRA issue and connect to your file storage service, before finding and downloading your file and then uploading it back into the JIRA issue. And then when the file is modified, you must start all over again. Repeating this process for multiple issues is time consuming, complicated and a boring task many of you are dealing with every day.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could directly find and attach your files into the JIRA custom field just by typing the file name, without ever leaving your current issue?

Efficiently manage Google Drive documents inside JIRA

With our latest nFeed release you can fetch and display data from any service using OAuth 2 authentication (Google Drive, Salesforce, Zendesk, and more) directly from your JIRA custom fields.

Let’s imagine this scenario: you’re working in a level one JIRA support platform and your job is to analyse the tickets clients are creating in order to get your help. While creating the tickets, the client needs to specify a unique reference of the product. You should analyse the demand and decide if the problem needs to be treated by level two support. In that case, you must find and attach a corresponding invoice generated in Google Drive.

In this article, we will show you how nFeed can help you find your invoice among thousands of other documents stored in Google Drive and attach it to your JIRA issue with a single click.

Step 1: connect your Jira with Google Drive API

In order to fetch and display data from Google Drive we need to create a communication bridge between Jira and Google REST API using Oauth2 authentication. For more information about OAuth2 and how to configure it, check this page.

Step 2: configure nFeed field search and display view

Let’s use the autocomplete custom field to search for your invoice. We can configure this field to filter all the Google Drive files and get only the .pdf and .doc files that contains “invoice” in their names and the product reference that you typed.

If you want to know more about how to write your query, check Google Drive API reference.

Once you’ve selected your invoice file, we can configure nFeed’s display template to show us the invoice preview and download link:
